At Northam, we see sport as an opportunity for our employees to bond outside of work, fostering team cohesion and morale. All of our mines – Eland, Booysendal and Zondereinde – have soccer, netball and athletics teams that engage in friendly competition. Eland and Zondereinde also have rugby clubs.
In 2023, the South African mining industry achieved its first fatality-free month, influencing Eland’s safety initiatives. These efforts aim to create a culture of individual accountability and safe production. Despite these efforts, slips, falls and material handling incidents still occur.
