Our group and operations
Northam is an independent, empowered, integrated primary producer of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) and associated base metals, benefitting from the full mine to market value chain.
Northam operates three wholly-owned mines; Zondereinde, Booysendal and Eland, located in the Bushveld Complex of South Africa, as well as a PGM recycling facility in the United States of America (US). The group also operates a metallurgical facility at its Zondereinde operation, comprising smelter and base metal removal (BMR) facilities.

Zondereinde mining operations
Zondereinde is a mature mine, which has successfully mined PGM ore from the Merensky and UG2 Reefs with the first production of PGMs in 1993.

Location:
The Zondereinde mine is situated in the northern portion of the western limb of the Bushveld Complex, approximately 30 km south of the town of Thabazimbi in the Limpopo Province. The mining right covers 9 257 hectares, and is underlain by both the Merensky and UG2 Reefs.
Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves:
Mineral Resources: 80.84 Moz 4E
Mineral Reserves: 14.80 Moz 4E
Metallurgy
The metallurgical complex
Northam’s metallurgical operations, located at Zondereinde treat PGM and base metal concentrates from our three mines, as well as from third parties. This is in addition to high value feeds from our US recycling business.
The metallurgical operations include a smelter facility, together with a BMR plant, which collectively produce high grade precious metal concentrate that is subsequently toll-refined off-site to final saleable metal.
Precious metals refining
The group has diversified its refining stream with agreements with two separate toll refining partners, Heraeus Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG (Heraeus) in Germany and Johnson Matthey PLC in the United Kingdom.

Booysendal mine
Booysendal is an established multi‑modular mining complex, with overall ore production producing above its steady-state of 500 000 oz 4E per annum. The Booysendal complex is separated into the North and South mines, with UG2 and Merensky mining modules currently either in production or development and mining ramp-up.

Location:
The Booysendal mining rights cover some 17 950 hectares and hosts both the Merensky and UG2 Reefs, which outcrop over a strike length of 14.5 km and dip at 10° to the west. The vertical separation between the Merensky and UG2 Reefs is approximately 175 m.

Eland mine
Eland is a shallow hybrid UG2 mine, currently ramping up to planned steady state. Eland mine hosts a Mineral Resource base of over 14 Moz 4E, the majority of which resides within near-surface, thick, high grade UG2, that boasts high platinum, rhodium and chrome loading. At steady-state, scheduled for 2029, the mine will produce 150 000 oz 4E in concentrate per year and provide direct, meaningful, sustainable employment for over 2 500 people.

Eland mine is located in the south-eastern portion of the western limb of the Bushveld Complex, some 70km north of Johannesburg and 12 km east of Brits, in the North-West Province of South Africa. Eland comprises a consolidated mining right that covers some 4 291 hectares and hosts both the Merensky and UG2 Reefs which sub‑outcrop over the entire 9.0 km east‑west strike of the property
